Which cabin bag size should you choose?
- If you fly with several airlines: choose a bag measuring no more than 55 × 40 × 20 cm. This is the most restrictive size and is accepted by TAP, Ryanair, easyJet, and Vueling.
- If you mostly fly with TAP: you can go up to 25 cm deep, which gives you more space for a short break.
- If you only take a personal item: a small backpack or a bag that fits under the seat will help you avoid paying extra fees.
Tips to avoid problems at the boarding gate
- Measure the bag with the wheels and handle. The dimensions provided by brands sometimes only refer to the body of the bag.
- Weigh the bag at home. A digital luggage scale helps avoid surprises, especially on the return journey when the bag is fuller.
- Choose a lightweight bag. A hard-shell ABS cabin bag usually weighs between 2 and 3 kg, leaving more room for clothes.
- Use organizers. Packing cubes help you make better use of the space and get through security checks more quickly.
